The Innovations in… Series is a core initiative of the MedStar Institute for Innovation (MI2). The series consists of an annual Innovation Forum that serves to bring together the brightest minds within the MedStar Health System. These Forums provide a fresh perspective on innovation and include a variety of presentations designed to inspire and excite as well as facilitated discussions aimed at unleashing innovation energy. The Forums are also an opportunity for participants to network with and engage in the creative energy of MedStar Health.
In short, the goals of the Innovations in… Series are to:
- Be Provocative: Our speakers put forth interesting, stimulating, and thoughtful ideas about innovation. It’s not only about thinking differently, but also thinking about different things.
- Showcase MedStar: The Forums feature the tremendous talent pool inside of MedStar Health and highlight the creative minds dispersed throughout our 9-hospital system.
- Catalyze Change: The Forums are intended to create ongoing conversations related to health innovation in order to affect change in the way we think and do.
In its inaugural year, MI2 joined forces with the Office of the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs to present Innovations in… Patient Safety. The Forum was held in Columbia, MD and included participants from over 20 organizations.
The second annual Innovation Forum, Innovations in… Thinking Differently, was held on October 6, 2011 at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center Hotel. Themed “The Future of MedStar Present,” this forum included presentations by Paul Plsek, former Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and Dr. Ben Shneiderman, Founding Director of the Human Interaction Lab at the University of Maryland, among many others.
